What kind of wax is used?
We use 100% natural soy wax. Soy wax burns cleans and doesn't release all the bad stuff into your air so you, your family, and your furry friends can enjoy our candles!
Why are there imperfections in my candle?
Irregular, bumpy surfaces after burning is normal and an indication that our candles are made with 100% natural soy wax. Candles you can buy in stores often contain additives to achieve picture perfect tops but we like our candles like we like our friends, non-toxic, so we've opted to forgo these additives. These imperfections won't affect the performance of your candle.
Why wooden wicks?
We love our wooden wicks for a few reasons:
- Wooden wicks give a slight crackling sound. It'll remind you of a sitting by a fire, which is oh so cozy!
- Wooden wicks tend to be more eco-friendly and burns more clean than a traditional cotton wick, which means less soot.
- Wooden wicks can heat the wax more uniformly for a more slow burn. Good news means you get more life out of your candle!
- Hold candle at an angle when lighting and keep contact with wick for at least 15 seconds.
Why does my wood wick go out?
While we love wood wicks, truth be told, wood wicks can be tricky and require a lot more love and care from you. If you are having any issues with your wick, try these tips:
- You may need to trim your wick. If the wick is too far above the surface of the wax, the wick may be having a hard time because not enough wax is flowing up the wick. Make sure the wick is trimmed to the proper height and light as normal. We recommend keeping your wick trimmed to around 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch. Always easier to start around 1/4 and adjust as needed.
- Your wick may have too much "black stuff" on it. Try to trim that portion off (but be careful not to trim too short). When you relight, try to keep the lighter on the wick for 15 to 20 seconds longer than you normally would with a cotton wick candle. Make sure you are getting a good flame.
- You may have an insufficient melt pool forming at the base of the wick. Try to create this melt pool at the base of the wick by relighting the candle and letting the lighter melt some of the wax. This will help the wick pull up that wax, which is what you need for the flame.
- If you didn't get a good first burn and now you have some "tunneling", the wick may be having a hard time breathing. You can scrape out a bit of the tunneled wax on the sides until the wick is level with the wax and then light and let it burn until the melted wax reaches the edge of the vessel. If your candle won't stay lit, your wick could be drowning in the wax. Try using a paper towel to soak up some of the melted wax (be careful and wait until it's cooled a bit). By removing some of the wax, you are giving your wick some room to breathe.
- If you've burned your candle too long, ash could be building up on the wick. If you notice the flame burning too low or continuously going out after a long burn, you may need let the wax and wick cool, flick off the ash or break the burnt part off of your wick, and then try relighting again.
- Be sure to burn your candle in a well-ventilated non-drafty room. A draft may blow out the candle prematurely or keep it from staying lit.
Once you get used to the extra care, we think you'll enjoy the wood wick more! Wood wicks may have a lower flame or burn different than cotton wicks. This is ok.

What kind of oil is used for the scents?
We use high quality fragrance oils that are regulated for safety by the International Fragrance Association and are phtalate and paraben free. Fragrance oils tend to perform better than essential oils in soy wax.
